They’re baaack!!! That’s right, it’s the day that all Star Wars fans looking forward to Star Wars: Episode VII have been waiting for: the official announcement of the cast of the brand new Star Wars movie. Star Wars VII is set to open December 18, 2015.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford (Hans Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2-D2) in the new film. I am a huge fan of the Star Wars movies from when I was a kid (I still have a Hans Solo promotional glass that is frequently used in my kitchen!), and I know that this cast is going to do an amazing job.

The cast recently met in London to do the first reading of the script – check out R2D2 hanging out as well!

So what about some of the newbies in the cast? Some of the younger cast members are John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are relatively unknown and just got a big break! I’m also really excited to see Max von Sydow join the cast – he is truly a superb actor. But what will he be? Jedi Master? Sith Lord? I can’t wait to find out! Andy Serkis, who played the voice of Gollom in Lord of the Rings, is almost certainly going to be some sort of voiced character (an alien? related to Jabba?). It’s also exciting to see an actor from one of my OTHER favorite series – Domhnall Gleeson, who played a Weasley in Harry Potter.

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. Stay tuned here for the latest in Star Wars news….and only 5 more days until Star Wars Day….
