Bella Spill-Proof Dog Mats {Product Review}

* I received a free Bella mat for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

If you have pups like I do, you know that your fur babies can be as big of a mess as your human kiddos.  So I was super excited to try out the Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat.

The Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat comes in an adorable bone shape and sits under your dogs’ food and water bowls.  I have the small mat and my dog’s full sized bowls easily fit inside of the mat.  My dog is pretty sensitive and she refused to eat her food in the kitchen – it took a while but she finally will eat on our hard word floors.  So it makes it even more important that we prevent spills and splashes – or else our hard wood will be ruined.  Before we got a Bella® Spill-Proof Dog Mat, we were constantly wiping up spills and sloshes with a towel, and food would scatter all over the place when she would eat.

One of the best things about the Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat is that it is slip resistant- it has little rubber feet so Sunny can’t push the mat across the floor.  It stays in place and catches any food pieces that she drops.  It makes clean up as simple as dumping the mat rather than sweeping the whole floor.  And it cleans really easy no matter how big the mess – I just rinse if off in the sink.  Also, I don’t worry about Sunny eating directly off the mat, since it is non-toxic and BPA free.

So if you have a messy eater or need to protect your floors, I highly recommend that you check out a Bella Spill Proof Dog mat!

Celebrate National Lost Dog Awareness Day!

Grab your pup and give them a hug in honor of the U.S’s first annual National Lost Dog Awareness Day!  I know that if my Sunny girl was lost, I would be BESIDE myself upset.  She is a member of the family and if she were lost it would be devastating.  National Lost Dog Awareness Day was created by Susan Taney and Kathy Pobloski, who are the directors of Lost Dogs Illinois and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin. This holiday is designed to bring attention to all dogs that are lost – as well as the thousands of dogs reunited with their families each year.

The Lost Dogs of America, which operates in Wisconsin, Arizona, Minnesota, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Iowa, and New Jersey, is a non profit, all-volunteer organization that provides free services and social networking to families who have lost their beloved pooches.  Lost Dogs of America has helped to reunited over 21,000 dogs with their families since 2010 – that’s something worth wagging a tail over and celebrating on National Lost Dog Awareness Day!  Even better, this opens up kennel space for homeless dogs, which is especially crucial in states that operate kill shelters.

Do you know what you would do if your dog was lost?  You may have taken some precautions, like I have, by having your dog microchipped.  Don’t forget to update the information on your microchip if you have moved, changed phone numbers, or changed vets, as this can render your microchip worthless if the person scanning your pup can’t get in touch with you.

Lost Dogs of America has some great tips on their website about what to do if your dog is lost, as well as some great tools (like creating your own “lost” flyers).  They also provide great information on what to do if you have FOUND a dog and want to help out.  So take a moment on this National Lost Dog Awareness day to read up on some tips to help keep your pooch safe and sound, but also to plan what you would do if the worst were to happen.

For more information on Lost Dogs of Wisconsin, please visit or join the LDOW community on Facebook ( and Twitter (@LostDogsofWisc).

Almost Wordless Wednesday – A Rough Week for Sunny Dog

So, our Sunny dog has had a bit of a rough week.  She chewed up a pair of my fiance’s jeans and had an accident in my youngest’s room.  Not sure what has her off her game, but she had a rough go of it this week.  So this week’s Wordless Wednesday is dedicated to Sunny Dog, because she’s still the best dog in the world, even when she’s not.

Traveling with Dogs + $350 Visa Gift Card Giveaway from Subaru #DogTested {Giveaway}

Do you travel with your dogs?  We definitely travel with Sunny in car trips – we haven’t worked up to flying yet.  She’s a still a little nervous in new places even though we adopted her from the rescue over a year ago – I’m pretty sure a trip in the baggage compartment of a plane would make her a nervous wreck.   But car trips are perfect for her, and when we purchase our next car, we will take a look at a Subaru, like the dogs in this video  did…check it out, it’s pretty funny!

Sunny is definitely a pro in the car at this point, but here are a few tips that we follow to make sure that her trips are successful.

*  Take your dog to places besides the vet, the groomer’s or boarding kennel.  We take Sunny all kinds of places, whether it be on a longer trip, or just a trip out to the barn, horse shows, etc.  But we never have to fight her to get in the car because most places we go are pretty fun!

*  Bring your dog’s crate on long trips.  This is a life saver for hotels, and dogs are safer if they are crated or harnessed while driving.  Buckle up!

*   Stop for breaks.  But be careful about feeding your dog before you leave until you know if they get motion sickness.  You don’t want to be cleaning THAT up.

And don’t forget your dog’s driver’s license!  If your dog doesn’t have a driver’s license, make sure you visit Subaru’s Facebook App and create your own!  Here’s Sunny’s!

Sunny Driver's License

Make sure that when you are using Subaru’s Facebook App that you use a fake address.!  While Sunny is a New Yorker, we don’t live in Woofersville, although that sounds like a pretty cool place!  Plus, you don’t want all of your dogs party animal friends to get your address of Facebook and show up at your house!

While you’re there, make sure you check out their other cool features such as Ask an Expert (Subaru live experts will answer your burning questions), Put Your Dog in a Subaru, and a Dog Matchmaker.  And of course, the Dog Driver’s License Creator!

The wonderful dog lovers over at Subaru are also sponsoring an AWESOME giveaway!  Enter using the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win a $350 Visa Gift card OR a $150 Visa Gift Card!

Dogs are Family #SubaruBP

Our dog, Sunny, lives up to her name.  She is happy and bubbly and funny and she is undeniably a part of our family.  She sleeps on our bed (she is a terrible pillow and blanket hog), and takes up her own couch cushion.  She is a playmate for my kids, a great snuggle companion for my boyfriend and I, and a champion nap buddy.  She travels with us all the time as well – sometimes it is short trips, like to the barn to play with her puppy buddies while my daughter rides her horse, and other times, on long hauls.  She will be driving with us tonight on our way to a weekend horse show.  It’s kind of like having another kid.  A much, much hairier kid.

Subaru knows all about traveling with kids, and dogs!  While Sunny probably wishes we traveled with a tailgate full of meat, we are more concerned with safely packing the girls and Sunny into the car with all of our luggage!   Sunny tends to ride in the back seat with the girls.  Sometimes, she will ride in the crate, but this tends to stress her out quite a bit, and gives her an upset stomach, which makes the ride, well, stinky.  Subaru knows all about how dogs travel with us.

Check out this ADORABLE video of Grant Weber, Subaru’s Canine Sales Associate buckling up an adorable puppy into a Subaru!

Subaru definitely gets that dogs are a HUGE part of family life, and that is something I definitely appreciate.  If you haven’t had a chance, head over the Facebook and check out the Subaru Facebook App!  It has tons of interactive pieces – including a feature where you can make your dog their own driver’s license.  I think Sunny will be getting one VERY soon!
