Bella Spill-Proof Dog Mats {Product Review}

* I received a free Bella mat for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

If you have pups like I do, you know that your fur babies can be as big of a mess as your human kiddos.  So I was super excited to try out the Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat.

The Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat comes in an adorable bone shape and sits under your dogs’ food and water bowls.  I have the small mat and my dog’s full sized bowls easily fit inside of the mat.  My dog is pretty sensitive and she refused to eat her food in the kitchen – it took a while but she finally will eat on our hard word floors.  So it makes it even more important that we prevent spills and splashes – or else our hard wood will be ruined.  Before we got a Bella® Spill-Proof Dog Mat, we were constantly wiping up spills and sloshes with a towel, and food would scatter all over the place when she would eat.

One of the best things about the Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat is that it is slip resistant- it has little rubber feet so Sunny can’t push the mat across the floor.  It stays in place and catches any food pieces that she drops.  It makes clean up as simple as dumping the mat rather than sweeping the whole floor.  And it cleans really easy no matter how big the mess – I just rinse if off in the sink.  Also, I don’t worry about Sunny eating directly off the mat, since it is non-toxic and BPA free.

So if you have a messy eater or need to protect your floors, I highly recommend that you check out a Bella Spill Proof Dog mat!

Petbrosia Pet Food – Customized Nutrition for Your Pet {Review & Giveaway}

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial. I received free Petbrosia for my pup, but all opinions are my own (and Sunny’s).

Capture

If your dog is anything like mine, she is more family than pet.  She sleeps on my bed (sometimes on my pillow), and I would do just about anything to make sure that she is happy, healthy and safe.  Part of that is making sure that she has the best nutrition possible.  I recently had a chance to try out Petbrosia, which is a nutrition system designed for your pet’s unique needs.

Petbrosia uses veterinarian and nutritionist designed algorithms based on your dog or cat’s breed, age, and weight to determine the perfect blend of protein, carbohydrates, and fats for your special animal.  In our box, we got a special sheet which listed Sunny’s custom blend.  All of the ingredients were listed right on the sheet!

IMG_4015-Edit

The best part is the actual ingredients – they use free run, antibiotic, and hormone free chicken and salmon.   Also, there is no corn, soy, wheat, gluten, by-products, artificial colors, or flavors.  This is the real deal!  It also has vitamins and supplements, including glucosamine and chondroitin, which help your pet maintain healthy joints.  And the best part – Petbrosia adjusts to your pets need as they age and change!

But of course, the big question I had, would Sunny like it?  She is honestly not a huge fan of dog food.  She will usually let her food sit, and hope for some nibbles of table scraps, and then eventually reluctantly eat her food.  So I wasn’t really sure if Sunny would like Petbrosia.  There was certainly a lot of interest when we brought the bag out..

petbrosia

Of course our nosy ferret Brutus was happy to check out the awesome resealable bag before Sunny got a chance to…

IMG_4025-Edit

Sunny was definitely interested in the food and gobbled a few down that we gave her by hand as a treat.  Petbrosia does recommend that you introduce new food slowly, but I hadn’t read that part yet, so we gave her a bowl.

IMG_4027-Edit

I was a little concerned that she wouldn’t chew the small pieces, since she really seemed to like the few bites we gave her by hand.  As soon as we put the bowl down, she went right over to it and began chowing down, which is soooo not like her!  She really loved Petbrosia!

IMG_4028-Edit

She did chew, but she ate THE WHOLE BOWL.  Sunny is definitely a Petbrosia fan, and we will likely be joining the Petbrosia Gold Club, which is a subscription service for Petbrosia food that offers free shipping and other awesome benefits for members!

Oh, and if you’re a feline fan, Petbrosia also carries cat foot customized for your kitty’s nutritional needs!

Celebrate National Lost Dog Awareness Day!

10150682_10203578549370060_5382908231566395393_n

Grab your pup and give them a hug in honor of the U.S’s first annual National Lost Dog Awareness Day!  I know that if my Sunny girl was lost, I would be BESIDE myself upset.  She is a member of the family and if she were lost it would be devastating.  National Lost Dog Awareness Day was created by Susan Taney and Kathy Pobloski, who are the directors of Lost Dogs Illinois and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin. This holiday is designed to bring attention to all dogs that are lost – as well as the thousands of dogs reunited with their families each year.

The Lost Dogs of America, which operates in Wisconsin, Arizona, Minnesota, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Iowa, and New Jersey, is a non profit, all-volunteer organization that provides free services and social networking to families who have lost their beloved pooches.  Lost Dogs of America has helped to reunited over 21,000 dogs with their families since 2010 – that’s something worth wagging a tail over and celebrating on National Lost Dog Awareness Day!  Even better, this opens up kennel space for homeless dogs, which is especially crucial in states that operate kill shelters.

Do you know what you would do if your dog was lost?  You may have taken some precautions, like I have, by having your dog microchipped.  Don’t forget to update the information on your microchip if you have moved, changed phone numbers, or changed vets, as this can render your microchip worthless if the person scanning your pup can’t get in touch with you.

Lost Dogs of America has some great tips on their website about what to do if your dog is lost, as well as some great tools (like creating your own “lost” flyers).  They also provide great information on what to do if you have FOUND a dog and want to help out.  So take a moment on this National Lost Dog Awareness day to read up on some tips to help keep your pooch safe and sound, but also to plan what you would do if the worst were to happen.

For more information on Lost Dogs of Wisconsin, please visit www.LostDogsofWisconsin.org or join the LDOW community on Facebook (www.facebook.com/findfido) and Twitter (@LostDogsofWisc).

If you are interested in starting an organization in your state, please visit Lost Dogs of America for more details.

Almost Wordless Wednesday – Every Day

This week’s Almost Wordless Wednesday is dedicated to my oldest daughter – she makes me proud every day – not only with her accomplishments as an equestrian and in school, but the person that she is becoming.  She turned 13 last Thursday.  Love you, B!

Almost Wordless Wednesday – A Rough Week for Sunny Dog

So, our Sunny dog has had a bit of a rough week.  She chewed up a pair of my fiance’s jeans and had an accident in my youngest’s room.  Not sure what has her off her game, but she had a rough go of it this week.  So this week’s Wordless Wednesday is dedicated to Sunny Dog, because she’s still the best dog in the world, even when she’s not.

Traveling with Dogs + $350 Visa Gift Card Giveaway from Subaru #DogTested {Giveaway}

SubaruDogTested_Toby

Do you travel with your dogs?  We definitely travel with Sunny in car trips – we haven’t worked up to flying yet.  She’s a still a little nervous in new places even though we adopted her from the rescue over a year ago – I’m pretty sure a trip in the baggage compartment of a plane would make her a nervous wreck.   But car trips are perfect for her, and when we purchase our next car, we will take a look at a Subaru, like the dogs in this video  did…check it out, it’s pretty funny!

Sunny is definitely a pro in the car at this point, but here are a few tips that we follow to make sure that her trips are successful.

*  Take your dog to places besides the vet, the groomer’s or boarding kennel.  We take Sunny all kinds of places, whether it be on a longer trip, or just a trip out to the barn, horse shows, etc.  But we never have to fight her to get in the car because most places we go are pretty fun!

*  Bring your dog’s crate on long trips.  This is a life saver for hotels, and dogs are safer if they are crated or harnessed while driving.  Buckle up!

*   Stop for breaks.  But be careful about feeding your dog before you leave until you know if they get motion sickness.  You don’t want to be cleaning THAT up.

And don’t forget your dog’s driver’s license!  If your dog doesn’t have a driver’s license, make sure you visit Subaru’s Facebook App and create your own!  Here’s Sunny’s!

Sunny Driver's License

Make sure that when you are using Subaru’s Facebook App that you use a fake address.!  While Sunny is a New Yorker, we don’t live in Woofersville, although that sounds like a pretty cool place!  Plus, you don’t want all of your dogs party animal friends to get your address of Facebook and show up at your house!

While you’re there, make sure you check out their other cool features such as Ask an Expert (Subaru live experts will answer your burning questions), Put Your Dog in a Subaru, and a Dog Matchmaker.  And of course, the Dog Driver’s License Creator!

The wonderful dog lovers over at Subaru are also sponsoring an AWESOME giveaway!  Enter using the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win a $350 Visa Gift card OR a $150 Visa Gift Card!

Dogs are Family #SubaruBP

SubaruDogTested_Samson

Our dog, Sunny, lives up to her name.  She is happy and bubbly and funny and she is undeniably a part of our family.  She sleeps on our bed (she is a terrible pillow and blanket hog), and takes up her own couch cushion.  She is a playmate for my kids, a great snuggle companion for my boyfriend and I, and a champion nap buddy.  She travels with us all the time as well – sometimes it is short trips, like to the barn to play with her puppy buddies while my daughter rides her horse, and other times, on long hauls.  She will be driving with us tonight on our way to a weekend horse show.  It’s kind of like having another kid.  A much, much hairier kid.

Subaru knows all about traveling with kids, and dogs!  While Sunny probably wishes we traveled with a tailgate full of meat, we are more concerned with safely packing the girls and Sunny into the car with all of our luggage!   Sunny tends to ride in the back seat with the girls.  Sometimes, she will ride in the crate, but this tends to stress her out quite a bit, and gives her an upset stomach, which makes the ride, well, stinky.  Subaru knows all about how dogs travel with us.

Check out this ADORABLE video of Grant Weber, Subaru’s Canine Sales Associate buckling up an adorable puppy into a Subaru!

Subaru definitely gets that dogs are a HUGE part of family life, and that is something I definitely appreciate.  If you haven’t had a chance, head over the Facebook and check out the Subaru Facebook App!  It has tons of interactive pieces – including a feature where you can make your dog their own driver’s license.  I think Sunny will be getting one VERY soon!

Welcome to The Mama Games!

Hey everyone!  I’m very, very excited to be starting a new chapter in blogging with The Mama Games.  What will you find here, you ask?  Well, a little bit of everything that is family and kid friendly.  A bit about me and my fam in explanation…

The Mama Games

That’s Me!

My name is Jaime and I am a thirty-something single mom of two beautiful girls living in Western NY, imported by my ex-husband from Oklahoma/Texas.  This may be the only picture you EVER see of me on this blog.  I love cameras but hate getting my picture taken.  I am a practicing attorney, but I was a teacher for several years and part of me misses it very much.  I am a certified early child hood and elementary teacher, as well as a certified middle school teacher, and a certified high school Social Studies teacher.  I love all things education and law.  When I’m not working as an attorney, I also run my own professional photography business focused primarily on wedding photography.  When I’m not doing that, I love to read and write, travel, and cook.

But enough about me – let’s introduce the girls right away so we can get right to the cuteness.

This is Bre.  She says she’s 11, but I strongly suspect that she is at least 35.  She’s funny, smart, snarky, and so considerate of others.  She has the uncanny ability to be pretty darn good at everything she decides to try.  She isn’t too much of a girly girl, and is never happier than when she’s on a horse.  She is a competitive equestrian (as you can see) in both English and Western riding events and recently started jumping.  She is also a talented flute player and loves to read.  She’s my serious girl, in contrast to…..

This little monster….this is Katie.  Katie is 6 and her world is pretty centered around all things happy and pretty and fun.  I have honestly never met a happier child.  She is always singing and dancing and playing and laughing.  If she were a Care Bear, she would be Cheer Bear and rainbows and unicorns and flowers would follow her wherever she went.  She also is sweet and smart and funny.  She is most definitely the princess around the house, and people love her wherever she goes.

And for the rest of the family —  there’s my boyfriend, but I’ won’t put his picture up without his permission :-).  He’s an almost grad student who will be starting his master’s degree soon, closing out a 1 year long distance relationship (Finally).  The girls and I are super excited to have him here with us very soon.

And last. but not least…

This is Sunny and Yummy.  Sunny is a rescue dog (found wandering the streets of Kentucky) who is pretty much the perfect dog with the exception that she occasionally murders a stuffed animal or chews its eyes out.  Yummy is my daughter’s American Paint Horse who we all love dearly. A good portion of our free time is spent hanging out at the barn.  Bre is the real rider, but Katie is just starting to learn too!

SOOOOO, that’s my little family.  They are the inspiration for this blog.  My daughter of course immediately assumed the title referenced The Hunger Games.  While I do love The Hunger Games (I have this idea of putting one dinner on the table and making my kids run and grab for it – my money’s on the little one), it was really more Ben Franklin that inspired the name.  Ben said, ““We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing!”

These girls, and the games we play, keep me young.

Welcome to The Mama Games!  May the odds be ever in your favor :-).
