Are You Ready for Some Strange Magic? #StrangeMagic

StrangeMagic

I’m so excited to share this with you!  Just found out about a new Lucas films movie that will be released on January 23, 2015 called Strange Magic!  There isn’t TOO much information available yet but I’m super excited because this is a musical, inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and features one of my FAVE Broadway actresses (Kristen Chenoweth) and is produced and composed by the same musical genius who did Moulin Rouge, Marius de Vries.  This is sure to be a good one, and I can’t wait until the trailer for Strange Magic comes out…

Here’s all the details from Lucas Films:

STRANGE MAGIC is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic, which created the CGI animation for 2011’s Academy Award®-winning film “Rango,” bring to life the fanciful forest turned upside down with world-class animation and visual effects.

With a story by George Lucas, STRANGE MAGIC is directed by Gary Rydstrom (“Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation,” “Lifted”), produced by Mark S. Miller (associate producer “Mars Attacks!”) and executive produced by George Lucas, with a screenplay by David Berenbaum (“Elf”), Irene Mecchi (“Brave,” “The Lion King”) and Rydstrom. An extraordinary roster of film, television and Broadway stars lend their voices to “Strange Magic,” including Alan Cumming (CBS’ “The Good Wife,” Broadway’s “Cabaret”), Evan Rachel Wood (“The Ides of March”), Kristin Chenoweth (Broadway’s “Wicked”), Maya Rudolph (“Big Hero 6,” “Bridesmaids”), Sam Palladio (ABC’s “Nashville”), newcomer Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina (“Chocolat”), Elijah Kelley (“Hairspray,” “The Butler”), Bob Einstein (HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and Peter Stormare (“Fargo”). Well-known music producer Marius de Vries (“Moulin Rouge”) serves as both the musical director and composer.

Make sure to keep up with developments by following Strange Magic on Facebook and Twitter.

Do you love to cook??  I do, and I can’t WAIT until Disney’s latest film comes out, because it definitely caters to foodies!  In DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” the opening of a new Indian restaurant in the south of France, next to a famous Michelin starred eatery, is nearly cause for an all-out war between the two establishments until Le Saule Pleureur’s icy proprietress Madame Mallory recognizes her rival’s undeniable brilliance for preparing masterful meals.

I can’t wait to see Helen Mirren bring on the sass and ice!  And not to mention the amazing fusion food ideas we’re going to get!  Here’s the trailer to whet your appetite!

Maleficent Movie Review + New Maleficent Activities #Disney

maleficent52823583203bc

Have you seen it?  Have you seen it yet??  We have and WE LOVED IT!!  I took the girls to see Maleficent this weekend and I can enthusiastically report that Disney has another smash hit on their hands.  The girls and I both really, really enjoyed it.  We came out of the movie with a family plan to dress as Maleficent characters when we head to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this fall.

So here’s the scoop.  My 7 year old and 13 year old girls both loved it – and there is definitely enough action in this movie that even the most girl-movie adverse boy would be into it.  I think it’s PG rating is definitely appropriate – there are some intense action scenes, but my youngest wasn’t bothered at all.  There are some scenes (without giving too much away) that are pretty heartbreaking that might upset the very youngest of viewers (my oldest daughter cried a couple of times).

Angelina Jolie was BRILLIANT.  I truly have never seen a movie with her in the lead that I have enjoyed more.  She, and this movie, gave us a lot to talk about.  In the car on the way home, we discussed what it means to be a hero, a villain, and sometimes a little of both.  We talked about heartbreak and anger and living with the consequences of our actions.  It is truly a moving movie with a great message.   LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this one!  If you haven’t seen it yet, please do so.  You won’t want to wait for this one to come out on DVD.

For those of you who are already huge Maleficent fans like we are, download Disney’s Scene Maker, a cool new activity pack that lets your kids act out the movie!  Here’s a sample of the Cut-Outs you get with the scene maker.

Memorial Day Recipe from Disney’s The Hundred-Foot Journey!

100FootJourney5373a4a3ceb49

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  Memorial Day is a time for remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and for holding our families dear with food, fun, and time spent together.

Disney is celebrating Memorial Day as well, and in honor of their new movie, The Hundred-Foot Journey, they have passed on a wonderful recipe that is perfect for Memorial Day get-togethers.

In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren), gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory’s culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan’s gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.

“The Hundred-Foot Journey” abounds with flavors that burst across the tongue. A stimulating triumph over exile, blossoming with passion and heart, with marjoram and madras, it is a portrayal of two worlds colliding and one boy’s drive to find the comfort of home, in every pot, wherever he may be.

As a foodie who LOVES to eat and cook, I will definitely be watching the Hundred-Foot Journey – and trying out this YUMMY Tandoori Chicken Recipe!

What yummy foods will you be eating this Memorial Day?

New Marvel Movie Announced: Guardians of the Galaxy

Do you have a Marvel nut in your house?  Even though I have two girls, we are BIG Marvel fans!  My oldest daughter is OBSESSED with Loki from the Thor franchise, and my youngest loves Captain America.  So I am super excited to see a new Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, coming out!  I know this is going to be one that my girls are going to want to see as soon as it is released in theaters!

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector.

James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige, p.g.a., producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers.

I’m super excited to see Bradley Cooper  and Zoe Saldana in this movie – love both of them!  I’m also super excited to see Chris Pratt in this role – I can’t think of him without thinking of his super-cute (and then super-jerky) character in Bride Wars – but he looks pretty good!

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is written by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman and releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

What is Disney Bounding? #Disney #Disneybound

So anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Disney…Disney music, Disney movies, and especially GOING anywhere that is Disney related.  The one trend that I haven’t picked up on is Disney with my fashion.  As a grownup (at least by age) in a professional occupation, I can hardly be seen rocking my Tinkerbell sweatshirt at the office.  Which I do have, and which I do wear on the weekends.  So imagine my delight when I found out about the “Disney Bounding” trend…..cue the angel music and fairy dust floating through the air.  But what is Disney Bounding?

Disney Bounding - Wendy

Disney Bounding is the BEST of both worlds – Disney and fashion.  It smushes Disney fashion into the grownup world, where you can create a look inspired by your favorite Disney hero (or villain) that you can rock at the office, on a date – ANYWHERE.  Only those with the most discerning of Disney eyes will pick up that you are really, sort of/kind of, in costume.   Usually, there is a little hint on the outfit that is a “giveaway” for those who are really paying attention.  Can you tell which Disney Bound character I’ve put together above? If you aren’t sure, check out the necklace…a dead giveaway for any die-hard Disney fan.  I love the demure little clutch (which I have a similar piece in my own closet) and the black ballet flats.  Adorable – and appropriate for my office any day of the week.  Disney Bounding is a great way to put a little fun in your work day – and bring some fun to other Disney afficianados – you never know who is a closet Disney nut like me!

So if you were going to rock your favorite Disney character, who would it be?  This goes for the guys too….Disney Bounding is not just for chicks!  More to come on this great Disney trend!

Disney Bounding: Gaston

Oh, and if you couldn’t figure it out – my outfit is channeling my inner Wendy from Peter Pan…
